What is Os Trigonum Syndrome?

Os trigonum syndrome involves pain in the posterior (back) ankle caused by an extra bone (os trigonum) or elongated posterior process of the talus. This condition is common in dancers, soccer players, and athletes who repeatedly point their toes, causing the os trigonum to become trapped between the ankle bones.

Several factors can contribute to the development of os trigonum syndrome:

  • Repeated ankle plantarflexion (pointing toes)
  • Ankle sprains
